About
The Wanganui Jockey Club was founded in 1848, making it New Zealand's oldest sporting club and its oldest thoroughbred club still racing on its original track. The course is a short distance from central Whanganui, about five blocks from the city centre. The club holds around eleven thoroughbred race days a year, highlighted by the Wanganui Cup, the O'Learys Fillies Stakes and its Vintage Weekend. Members get race day entry, discounts in the stands and use of a members' lounge. The grounds include a modern function centre with dedicated event rooms and accommodation options, and they also host community events such as a pony club mini show and local agricultural shows.
