About
Heavy Horse Heaven is a registered not-for-profit equine welfare charity founded in 2011 and situated in Yass, New South Wales, just north of Canberra. Managed by founder Karen Hood alongside a dedicated volunteer team, the organisation specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming of heavy horse breeds and crosses across Eastern New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The facility accommodates Clydesdales, Shires, Percheron crosses, and other heavy breeds that have been abandoned, neglected, rescued from slaughter sales, or surrendered due to owner hardship. Supported by equine professionals, horses receive health rehabilitation and training to prepare them for long term placement as ridden mounts or companion animals. Horses are cared for on rolling acreage at the Yass headquarters or placed within a network of volunteer foster homes.
